June walk. Great group today and a nice walk along Ferny Creek. Many thanks for those that braved the dodgy weather and made it an enjoyable morning.

Today was spent in the lovely long grasses, removing pitto, boneseed and blackberry seedlings. Then we put our new inspection camera into practice and viewed some nesting boxes... No-one home – yet. Photos by Daniel Jackson
A few people have suggested that Glenfern arrange some small bush-walks. We are going to give it a try.
The June walk will be on Wednesday 21nd June starting at 10 am from the Glenfern main gate. We will open the Glenfern car park so there will be easy parking. The walk will be down through Glenfern, across the grounds of the Archery Club and then down along Ferny Creek beyond the retarding basin. We will explore the new reserve created after the subdivision of the Green Wedge. See the map. It's an easy walk - should take around 90 minutes - see map. We can have a cuppa at the end of the walk. As mentioned already Friends of Glenfern Valley Bushlands now also looks after an adjoining small reserve called Forest Park Reserve. This week we have been working with StopPitt. StopPitt is a community led organisation dedicated to the control of Sweet Pittosporum. They have won funding to have contractors work on public and private land to remove Pittosporum. We are grateful for their work this week - the transformation of this reserve - the removal of Pittosporum.

A busy day at Glenfern. We had 140 international students international and 8 teachers from Trinity College, Melbourne University visit Glenfern as part of a educational field trip to study the Australian environment. Hundreds of trees were also planted by the students into the area recently cleared of Sweet Pittosporum. We had 12 expert volunteers help out over the morning and afternoon sessions. A big thank you to our volunteers and to Linda and Andrew for organising the event. A great success. ![]()
