We are back!!!!!!!!!!!!
Friends of Glenfern Valley Bushlands have recommenced work on the much loved conservation project. Just a couple of volunteers today, to kick things off and to sort out the entrances. Great result. Thanks for helping. We will be having a Midweek working bee session next Wednesday morning 4th Nov. Details to be confirmed. Covid-19 restrictions has held up our tree planting program this season. We have had 150 seedlings in limbo as volunteering is not a permitted activity during Stage Four lock-down.
Council have very generously stepped in to help us. Many thanks to Steve Feather and his team the 150 plants are in the ground. They are located in the area cleared of pittosporum earlier this year - west (high side) of Wallaby Walk. Thank you Yarra Ranges Council for getting the plants in. Our bush regeneration is alive and well! My twilight walk through the Bushlands was just what I needed to refresh myself. It looked beautiful and I noticed that the wildflowers are starting to come out. The Wonga Vine is flowering well and the delicate blue Love Creeper is appearing. - Linda Photos by Linda Fullagar
We were thrilled to receive a $1000 staff grant from the Dandenong Ranges Community Bank for our long term contribution to the community. Thank you Lorraine for nominating us.
Bush Restoration Morning Wednesday 1st July 9-11am Our Bushlands are looking beautiful at the moment so why don't you come along and enjoy them as well as doing a little work to improve them even more? Meet us at the main, middle car park and we will walk to the amphitheatre where we will be doing a little weeding, removing sleeves and stakes, as well as whipper-snippering. We also plan on whipper-snippering around the main entrance and rock wall so if you have a whipper-snipper it would be great if you could bring it along. Please bring gloves, snack and a drink. We had the pleasure of returning to the bushlands on the weekend to remove the weeds that have taken residence over the past twelve months. We worked in areas 2 down through 12, which afforded us views of the city and grasslands, as well as riparian forest and Ferny Creek. Thanks to those who attended and welcome to those whose first time it was working with our Friends Of group. Glenfern Valley Bushlands really is a special place, that's provided a welcome sanctuary for people desiring to connect with nature, or stretch their legs during this isolating time. Take a look through the photos myself (Daniel Jackson), Edie and Linda took to enjoy some of the scenery and points of interest that we witnessed. We are excited to say that we can start our Bush Restoration mornings after months of not being able to. It will be great to get together with friends and work in our beautiful Bushlands. This Sunday 21st June we will meet at 9.30 in the main, middle car park on Glenfern Road and we hope you can join us. However things aren't quite back to normal so there are just a few changes to our routine. You must not attend if you have any of the slightest symptoms of COVID-19. Please bring your own gloves, drink and snack. You must observe the 1.5m rule. If it is raining, the Bush Restoration morning will be cancelled and we will let you know via email and Facebook. UPDATE: Working bees cancelled at Glenfern due to COVID-19. To be on the safe side, the committee have come to the decision to cancel all working bees until further notice. Working bee this Wednesday 4th March, 9-11am. Hope you can come. It's always enjoyable with good company, beautiful Bushlands to be in and a great morning tea.
Our first bush restoration of the year was spent mainly removing boneseed from the lovely & grassy area 5. We also got to observe a small copperhead snake near one of the paths. It was good to get out in the bush again, and to see the Glenfernians after a couple of months away! Enjoy the photos. And you're all invited to the Upwey Billycart Race this Sunday where some of us will be volunteering! Photos by Daniel Jackson
