The boneseed in areas 5 & 9 had enjoyed being out of our sights during the postponed bush restorations of last year. So there was plenty to do and many photos to take. In fact some wallabies were spotted off in the distance in the reserve. It was a good day to be outdoors.

Friends, our next (socially distanced) bush restoration is taking place tomorrow morning. See below for what you'll need to bring.
Hope to see you then! In early February of this year, Friends member Anne Comer photographed and identified a number of Glenfern residents.
Take a look at her wonderful images below. The rainy clouds parted to leave mostly clear skies for our annual New Year’s Picnic and Twilight Walk, delayed ’til now “because COVID”. After having our picnics at the old quarry, we got out our spotting torches and made our way into the trees. There we spotted ringtail and brushtail possums, a sleeping wattle bird, sugar gliders (the sweetest of all gliders – no-one laughed at this joke last night so I’ll take another swing, now), micro bats, and spiders. But the most unexpected thing seen in the night sky by myself, Daniel, was a string of maybe ten satellites flying closely in a straight line down towards the horizon. Enjoy the pictures taken with my iPhone! (Not an order.) It was great to get out with friends and continue with our bush restoration work at Glenfern. The Blackberries had been growing well with the wetter weather but our team did a great job in removing them. Thanks everyone who came along to the last working bee of the year. What a difference you have made to our beautiful Bushlands.
Hi friends and supporters. Working bee this Wednesday morning. We will have one last working session at Glenfern this year. We are still working under Covid protocols - see details as per flyer. Come along and share some love with your local community bushlands.
The wildflowers and flowering grasses looked beautiful at Glenfern yesterday. As I wandered through the bush removing weeds I was distracted by all the natural activity and growth. It was so rewarding to see that our years of weeding effort have encouraged recruitment of all these native plants. - Linda Photos by Linda Fullagar
Snap of some of the volunteers in Glenfern today. We worked in areas 10 and 11, with main task of getting rid of boneseed and pittos. Great to see see our volunteers today - it has been a challenging year as the COVID-19 restrictions made us cancel most of our working bees. Many thanks to the willing Glenfern friends who helped out.
Saturday 21 November 9.30am—12.30pm
We will be working with Covid19 restrictions. Please bring your own secateurs or loppers and pruning saw as we will not be supplying or sharing tools. We will supply the dabbers only. We will have hand sanitiser on hand. Meet at the Main Gate. We will be working in area 10 and 11, checking for woody weeds and weed seedlings coming up. Snakes have now become active. Make sure you wear sturdy shoes, long pants, long sleeves, and gloves. The best protection is to wear snake gaiters, available from outdoor stores. Please bring water and your own morning tea. Event will be cancelled if raining or Total Fire Ban. |
