On Saturday we welcomed just over one-hundred students from Melbourne Uni's Trinity College to Glenfern. With the assistance of their teachers and past student visitors, Glenfern members gave the students a guided tour of the reserve, to assist them with their study of Australia's natural environment. We also removed some Briza grass along the way. Thanks to our volunteers for sharing their time and knowledge, and for the students for being great guests, as always. Photos by Daniel Jackson
Birds love Glenfern. The older trees along Ferny Creek have many natural hollows that are great nest sites. A family of Kookaburras have a nesting hollow next to Ferny Creek - about opposite Forest Park Reserve. The family is busy today feeding young. The adults come and go every 5 to 15 minutes. Yesterday, many Glenfern members gathered under clear skies to take a guided tour of our reserve as a way to thank those members for their support. Thanks to Linda, Andrew, David and others, we got to learn (or re-learn) much about the flora and fauna that we are lucky to have at Glenfern. I (Daniel) went off-track with team Andrew & Linda, so most of these photos are from that trek. Mid-morning we enjoyed a tasty morning tea at the old quarry. It was great to see many familiar faces, some that join the regular crew every now and then, and some that are purely financial members. Any level of commitment is welcome and appreciated, and should you not currently be a member, please visit the following link and consider supporting us and/or getting involved: Glenfern Membership. Glenfern volunteers at our Bushlands Restoration on Saturday. We worked on the "old quarry" area - now transformed to a beautiful and peaceful spot in the middle of our bushlands. Photos of volunteers busy with activities during the morning. Photos by Daniel Jackson
